Microchip Serial EEPROM 24XX256 In Stock

Microchip 24LC256 256 Kbit I2C serial EEPROM, 2.5-5.5 V, 64-byte page write, one million write cycles, in an 8-pin DIP package.

The 24LC256 is a Microchip 256 Kbit (32K x 8) serial electrically erasable PROM that communicates over the two-wire I2C bus, in an 8-pin package. It stores the configuration, the calibration and the parameters that must survive a power cycle without the cost or the size of a parallel memory, and its cascadable feature lets up to four devices share one bus for a larger total. The device uses a 64-byte page write with partial pages allowed and a self-timed write cycle of about five milliseconds, and it includes a Schmitt trigger and filtered inputs for noise suppression and a write-protect pin for hardware and software data protection. The endurance is about one million write cycles with a data retention of 40 years, which suits the settings that must last the life of the product, and the device operates from about 2.5 V to 5.5 V over an industrial temperature range. The broad voltage range and the small package make it a natural companion to a microcontroller, and the common pinout across the 24-series family lets a design move up in density without a board change. Typical applications include configuration and parameter storage, calibration data, data logging, identity and MAC-address storage. Every device BeiLuo ships is factory-traceable and includes an import declaration, a certificate of origin and a RoHS compliance file. Our FAE team helps you choose the density and plan the write protection and the layout.

FAE Professional Review

The 24LC256 is the general-purpose I2C serial EEPROM we recommend for configuration, calibration and identity storage, with a 64-byte page write and a write-protect pin that keep the data safe. It shares the pinout of the 24-series family, so the density can grow without a board change. Keep the bus pull-ups and the decoupling as the datasheet recommends.

Frequently Asked Questions

What projects suit the 24LC256?

It suits a design that must store configuration, calibration, parameters or an identity over the I2C bus in about 256 Kbit, such as an instrument or a controller. The 64-byte page write and the write-protect pin keep the data safe.

How do I protect the data?

Use the write-protect pin and the software data protection to guard the critical region, and use the page write for an efficient update. Keep the I2C pull-ups and the decoupling as the datasheet recommends, and confirm the write cycle at the worst-case supply.
